Child Support Officer IV
Job Profile
Conducts and oversees detailed in office investigations to locate parties, verify employment and determine assets As team leader, assigns and monitors work of assigned staff Responds to complex inquiries and complaints from customers Explains Child Support Program policies, procedures and regulations to customers Researches case information on the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES); maintains current knowledge of child support policies and procedures, Texas Family Law, federal regulations and other states' IV-D regulations Provides training and technical assistance to office staff Negotiates out-of-court settlements and agreements with parties Prepares documents relating to legal and administrative actions to establish or enforce child support orders Documents all actions taken Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including but not limited to applicable security and safety rules, regulations, and standards MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supervises office staff in the absence of the office manager and/or supervisor Assesses the validity of complaints against the IV-D program with impartiality Attends court to assist legal staff as needed Performs related work as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school graduation or equivalent Graduation from an accredited college or university; may substitute full-time Child Support Program, investigations, credit collections, legal assistant, legal secretary, IV-A eligibility specialist or closely related experience for required education on a year-for-year basis Two additional years full-time Child Support Program, investigations, credit collections, legal assistant, legal secretary, IV-A eligibility specialist or closely related experience of which one of the two years of experience must be as a Child Support Officer or an equivalent position in a IV-D agency or private sector is required Extensive knowledge of investigative practices and techniques Extensive knowledge of child support policies, procedures and processes Extensive skill in communicating effectively Extensive skill in negotiating and interviewing Extensive skill in using a computer for word processing and data entry/retrieval Extensive skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the public Extensive skill in working under pressure and meeting deadlines Extensive skill in basic mathematical computations Must be able to lift 25 lbs PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university Bilingual in English and Spanish TRAVEL 25% required
